A BLAST FROM THE PAST.

America’s favorite music of the 50’s and 60’s … a mix of country, doo-wop, bluegrass, R&B and a touch of funny completes a dinner theater adventure at Duplin. Your toes won’t be able to hold back their tappin’ and will bring you back to the days of rockabilly, doing the twist and be-bopping. Before the show, a delicious 3-course meal will be served and once completed, the show will begin.

Duplin Dinner Theater events sell out fast so be sure to get your tickets in a hurry!

Enhance your dinner theater reservations with a comprehensive tour and tasting for only $10. The tour and tasting begins at 3:30 pm and has a limited number of seats available.

Stargazing at Cabin Lake – NC Science Fest @ Cabin Lake County Park

Enjoy an evening of stargazing and educational adventures at Cabin Lake County Park! This event is part of Cowan Museum’s NC Science Fest. 

  • 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., there will be fun hands-on activities and stories for kids with the Duplin County Library!
  • 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. take a tour of the night sky with the Cape Fear Astronomical Society, where one will see a star cluster, star systems, and galaxies.

Science-Farm Day – NC Science Fest @ Tarkil Branch Farm's Homestead Museum

Visit Tarkil Branch Farm’s Homestead Museum for a fun-filled day of farm activities… with science! This event is part of Cowan Museum’s NC Science Fest! 

  • Take a selfie with baby goats, chickens, and ducks from the University of Mount Olive!
  • Make ice cream with James Sprunt Community College (free samples for the public) and milk a model cow!
  • Learn from East Duplin High School how apple cider and apple cider vinegar is made. Free apple cider samples for the public.
  • Demos of turpentine distillation.
  • Demos of grafting grape vines by Mill Branch Vineyards. Free grape juice samples for the public.
  • Make edible soil profiles with the Duplin Agribusiness Academy.
  • Talk to a beekeeper and learn the science of how honey is made (with free honey tasting).
  • Sandwiches for sale from the Country Barn!

Alternative Energy Day Tour – NC Science Fest @ Cowan Museum of History & Science

Earth Day Celebration – NC Science Fest @ Cowan Museum of History and Science

Visit the Cowan Museum of History and Science for a celebration of our extraordinary planet. During our Earth Day party, people of all ages may enjoy the following:

  • Hands-on activities about earth science and astronomy provided by the National Informal STEM Education (NISE) Network.
  • Learn about silkworms and paint on silk!
  • See paintings done by birds from the Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary and meet some of their feathered residents. There will also be a Meet & Greet with the “Pirates for Parrots” author and Charlie, the Picasso of Parrots.
  • Raffle/prizes (a chance to win a dinosaur tooth)!
  • Tree planting ceremony.
  • Nature photography exhibit/sale.
  • Food!
  • Plant sale in the historical park’s General Store.
  • New Earth Day-related additions to our Little Free Library.
  • Plus, our neighbors at Liberty Hall Restoration will hold their Heritage Day, where one may learn the science behind everyday activities in the 1800s, like laundry

Liberty Hall’s Heritage Day @ Liberty Hall

Heritage Day will be April 27th, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, on the grounds at Liberty Hall. Learn about the skills that people from the 1800’s had that they called, “daily life.” All outside events are free.  Cowan Museum of History and Science will be hosting a Earth Day Celebration. Activities scheduled all day.

Carolina Strawberry Festival @ Downtown Wallace

The Carolina Strawberry Festival is an annual event in downtown Wallace. The night will include a great selection of entertainment, and of course strawberries. The entertainment will feature The Johnson Boys and Band of Oz. In addition, the night will have wings, beer & wine garden, BBQ cook-off, midway and more.
